The attached graph plots life expectancy versus per capita health spend in a range of countries. The countries studied in my thesis were specifically UK, Morocco, Japan and Czech Republic - the four countries where I have spent most of my healthcare career.
Interestingly, the UK, Czech Republic and Morocco seem to have a clear correlation between the higher the amount spent on healthcare, the longer the life expectancy. Japan seems to have a particularly strong outcome per US$ spent and this might be due to other factors such as diet. From this analysis, the USA is the least efficient healthcare market, costing the country much more to generate extra life expectancy.
Whilst this is a crude analysis, because there are many other factors affecting the health of a nation, it is an interesting starting point when looking at delivering healthcare across the globe.
