European Healthcare Spend Rises Rapidly After the age of 65

  • The expenditure on healthcare in Europe rises rapidly after the age of 65
  • The graph below from the Economic Policy Committee’s report shows citizens aged 65 and over account for increasing levels of healthcare spending - far more than any other population group.
  • EU policy-makers warn that public spending on healthcare will rise by 4% to around 8% of GDP over the next few decades
