The Ageing Population and Life Expectancy

In the UK, as in many countries of the world, their is an age time-bomb ticking.....
    • In 2006 in the UK the average life expectancy was 77 years for a male, and 82 years for a female.
    • Of this, Healthy Life Expectancy or (HLE) for males is 68.2 years at birth so the average male will experience 8.7 years of poor health during their lifetime.
    • For females, HLE is 70.4 years at birth and they will experience 10.9 years of poor health in their lifetime.
    • Because of their longer life expectancy, women out number men by 2:1 in over 85 age group.
