Active and Inactive Citizens in Europe Between 2000 and 2050

  • The number of active, employed citizens in Europe is set to plateau and decline between now and 2050
  • This is over the same timescale that the number of elderly increases dramatically
  • The net result is that fewer employed support more elderly
  • Remember LTCs increase dramatically over the age of 60 and is set to treble in the next 40 years thereby increasing healthcare costs
